Hello! This is my first post here so... Please be gentle. <3

I kinda have an interesting and unusual way I'd like to use DKPSystem, and I'm unsure if anyone can help me or not..

I play on a Roleplaying server on World of Warcraft. My guild is a roleplaying guild of about 70+ members. We are NOT a raiding guild, but we do occassionally go to ZG on in character dungeon crawls. We do -not- use points for loot and we don't keep track of loot. We just use a 'be cool' system. Ok now that you know a little about us...

We do use points however... for our guild promotions. We have a hidden point system, only viewable to the officers. Members earn points by attending meetings and events. Also by turning in 'reports' (We patrol areas and answer to world defense calls and have our members send an in character report to an officer via in game mail). Each guild rank takes so many points.

I'm in charge of the point system and currently I'm doing it ALL by hand via a table in our forums on the GuildPortal website. I keep track of the date they joined the guild, current points, points spent on promotions, and total points earned. I also keep another table with more details of how they earned the points. What events they attended and how many points they earned for that. Along with an area at the bottom for notes about that character so we know who is being a jerk often and needs to be booted.. or when someone is showing great behavior.

To anyone who has read this post this far and not gone 'lawl RP *close window*' thank you!
Now.. what I'm trying to figure out is if DKPsystem is customizable to do what I need it to do.

As I've stated.. we do not currently, and don't plan on keeping track of loot for any groups/raids that we do. So we don't need that part of the website... But I am looking to REALLY customize my guild website to do some pretty amazing things (not just the point system) in the eyes of roleplayers... Though that's probably left for another topic.. Oh hell I may as well say a bit about what I'm looking for, while I have your attention. >_>

I had this really, stupidly, awsomely, mind-blowing idea for my guild's website.. BUT have NO idea how the heck to accomplish it..

Things I would like on my website:
  1. People being able to sign up with a name, but then be able to 'add characters' to that name. (Example: My website name is LadyDiamond and my 3 characters are Aa, Bb, and Cc.)
  2. People being able to choose one of their characters on their web account to post as in the forums. If you know anything about RPers, you know a lot of them LOVE alts. (Example: I choose 'Aa' to post something on the forums. Then I switch to 'Bb' to reply to someone elses thread.)
  3. All characters are able to have their own avatar and signature.
  4. Similar to the Bizzard WoW site Forums, I would like character information to be under the Avatar on the left of the screen. (At least: Guild name, Guild rank, Special title for that character, Post count for that character, then maybe a TOTAL post count for the whole account in () brackets next to the character post count.)
  5. Character profile: Clicking on a posters name would take you to that character's profile and it would show you a section for web page stats and in game stats (I know theres a mod that people can download and it will upload all character info to a website). Also they would be able to see what other characters that poster has and see the name of the master account. (Example: I post on 'Bb', someone clicks into my profile and can see that my master account name is Lady Diamond and that my other characters are 'Aa' and 'Cc').
  6. Player made quests: Ok this may be stretching a bit.. but I want the officers (maybe even members of a certain forum/web status?) be able to create their own player made quests. People would be able to go to the 'Quests' page to see a list of the available quests that each person has available. Click on the quest title, a pop-up would pop-up that has the quest information on it and people can accept or cancel. If they accept, then they are directed to a confirmation page that lets them choose which of their website characters they want to do the quest on, then the quest is stored somewhere in their character info and/or profile page. Then ingame they can complete the quest, then an officer can come and update the website to show that the quest was completed, etc... I think you may know where I'm going with this..
  7. Alternative to popups: Instead of the quests popping up, It would also be neat to be directed to a page, after clicking a quest title, that has a standing up picture of the character who is offering the quest.. have a speach bubble coming from their mouth, or have them holding out the parchment with the quest text on it... Just a thought.
  8. Website quest rewards? If the above is possable.. I'd love to think of a way to reward the character on the website (I would also reward in game of course.) though I'm unsure with what. I want posting on the forums, accepting quests on the site and generally participating, to be rewarded and fun.. to encourage people to do it. I've seen some roleplaying websites that are pretty detailed, where people earn gold for each post and can level up and buy items on the website. Not sure if I wanna get THAT detailed.. but it IS in my mind of possibilities.

I'm mostly looking for a real RICH environment that will keep people coming back.. and have the opportinity to have a lot of fun out of game and in game.

Good lord.. I know this is a lot to read through and I thank you again for taking the time to. I think I will stop now before I explode.. I'm sure your eyes are sore about now.. But again, thank you for reading this far! I'm not looking for a simple solution... Though one would be GREAT! I just have little experience, but I'm a fast learner, and I have the drive to put this together.... Somehow.. I just need a little push in the right direction. I'm sorry if this is a topic that shouldn't be here.. But I saw this site and thought maybe it's worth a try!

Hello there, thanks for your interest and your post. This presents me with a very different viewpoint that I am admittedly largly

Some interesting ideas you have there, perhaps in the future I could give some consideration to the implementation of some of those, but for the most part, making those work on a DKPSystem.com site will require a bit of hack-approaches.

Now, to address a number of your points:

1) You can already register with an account, and then attach characters to your account. From there you can define which character you wish to be your "Main" but that doesn't serve much of a functional purposes, merely aesthetic.

2-4) Unfortunately, at current, these aren't possible. While each post will list your character's and links to their character profiles, the post itself doesn't have a "character" associated with it. But, like I said, this provides me with a different perspective, and so I can give some consideration to the implementation of such.

5) This is available, to a degree. As I said previously, each post will list all the charactes associated with the account, as shown below:

6) If you sufficiently trust your members enough, you could implement a "kinda" version of this with Guides and give them access to modify them as needed, but there'd be no central "Quests" page, per se. You COULD, however, try utilizing the "Keys, Attunements and Completed Quests" functionality to be something to this effect, but ultimately, anything you'd do here would be some wierd hack. You could ALSO try to implement a "Quest Page" by perhaps utilizing some hack of the DKP System. Perhaps creating a bunch of "DKP Raids" on the same day with different names like "Quest X." Then, if someone completes a quest, they can inform you, and you can then go to Admin > Raid Attendance, check the box next to their name for the appropriate "Raid," and in their character profile, it'll show as completed. It would be twisting the Loot Systems in a completely unique way, but I see it working. The addition of the "I was there" link provided to members would make this "Quest completed" thing fairly smooth.

7) If you do any of the hack approaches listed in 6, you could easily attach an image to the summary for you. That'd be trivial.

8) This, being the most general request, is pretty hard to meet properly. You could simply say in the text that "completion of this quest will earn you X or Y."

I'll admit that the site isn't terribly conducive to RPers, at least in the areas you describe, and historically, it's built around making a raiding guild a well oiled machine. I will say that some of the tools provided on this site are flexible enough that with some creativity, the functionality could be twisted a bit beyond it's original design (like the DKP hack I proposed above), which would, in a sense, emulate what you're trying to do, to a degree, but at the moment, most of what you've suggested isn't supported directly, via something like a built-in "Questing" mechanism.

The more I think about the Questing mechanism, however, the more I realize that building something to that effect isn't exactly hard, per se.

I'll stick member-defined quests on the list and see when it could be implemented.

Thank you for your feedback, this post of yours could help us both: Help you in that you won't have to code your own solutions to this, and help me in tapping the RP market

You may not be interested in using them but check out http://ui.worldofwar.net or http://wow.curse-gaming.com/en and search for Player Quest. There had been mods in the past that allowed Guild Officers to create quests that players could accept In Game. I never used then and don't know how well they do or don't work. The idea behind them was kind of like you defining. Player Aa has turned in 15 reports and gone on 24 faction conquest raids in the last 4 months. They are now eligible for Rank 4 but have to pass the rite of passage to that rank. The player takes the quest from the Class Officer and has to do whatever....kill some Dragonkin in Azshara or something. When they complete it they come back to the Player that gave them the quest and it is supposed to complete it. Like I said I have never used them and I am not sure if they have even been updated for the latest patch but that might be a better way to implement what you want.

For you point system. I think the DKPSystem would work fine. You can define anything you want as a Raid Destination. So in a sense you could define all the Zones in the game. You could set them up very similar to the way Raid Destinations work today:
Ashenvale: Local Defense
Ashenvale: World Defense
Ashenvale: Quest
What ever types of things you needed to do. This allows you to setup point definitions or leave it blank which means you assign it manually. If you are doing a Guild Sponsored outing you could still certainly use GRSS to take manual snapshots of your raiding/party groups in attendance (if parties are done and not a conclusive raid each officer in a different part has to use it) and this would allow you to do some of the tracking automatically. Also Chops has already (as he stated in his intent to make a raiding guild a well oiled machine) provided several mechanisms to make mass updating manually rather painless. There are options to hide the DKPSystem also which means that, as you stated above, you can give access to only officers to view and update it.

Six Demon BagRefresh This Item
Jack Burton: Hey, what more can a guy ask for?
Egg Shen: Oh, a six-demon bag!
Jack Burton: Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg?
Egg Shen: Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!
