This is a two part question:

[1] Is it possible to import an SMF board to my dkpsystems forum?

[2] I see that there is an option to import from phpBB but the documentation is seriously lacking (or else I'm missing it). Can someone point me to any documentation or guide that shows an example of what will happen when I import, what exactly will be imported, etc.? I did a search here on the forums as well as the ticket system as well as each page I could find that made reference to phpBB.

Thinking now, you're right the documentation is lacking there. I rather figured it was self-explanatory (at least more-so than many of the documented features).

In short, when you upload it, it'll import accounts, email addresses, posts, and topic (creating thread tags out of them), and it will attempt to import passwords (Which may or may not work). It will NOT overwrite any posts or accounts, so there's no threat of losing data, or having an account's email address changed.

It'll also import PMs as Private threads.

All of the thread tags will be viewable only to you (Rank 1 Security), which will then need to be changed.

There is not currently an SMF forum importer, but that is something I've got data on and I'm working on. If you'd like to submit your own SMF importer, the more real-world data I have the better and more robust it'll be.

Perhaps I did miss some documentation there and if so, please feel free to tell me to RTM and link to it if these questions are already answered. Also of note is that my current forum is SMF and I'll be converting it to phpBB and then doing the import (sadly I don't yet have enough experience to write an SMF conversion script but i follow directions fairly well, lol) so perhaps the information I seek will be answered as I do the import but for noob sake, can you also please answer the following questions if they're not found elsewhere?

[1] On my current site, I already have a user/admin set up as "tayluca" so when I import the threads, will it associate the threads imported with my account or is there anything odd I need to know about importing threads/accounts for people who's accounts have already been created on my dkpsystem site?

[2] I have accounts on my current site that have varying arrays of membergroups. For these accounts that will be imported, what permissions will they have at first? Lowest level security? Will I then need to go through for each account and tell it which rank it should be and manually associate each account with a toon?

[3] I have a HUGE number of members on my current site, many of which are now obsolete but we've kept them because there were just so many that I slacked and haven't pruned them. If I do the import, and THEN delete the accounts, will the threads associated with them be deleted or will they remain intact for continuity/history sake?

Nope. Nothing will be overwritten or replaced if the account exists already on your DKPSystem site. If there is an account with a different name, but using the same email address, the posts will automatically transfer to that account, rather than creating a seperate account.



Because the group paradigm doesn't convert directly over, all accounts will be given the minimum security on your site.



The threads will indeed remain.



Absolutely! Your post didn't sound hostile in any way, it sounded "inquisitive." Admittedly the documentation is a low point on the site, and something that's always trailing behind the functionality.
