Wesite Accounts ranks and security

I have several Wesite Accounts that have a character associated to them. The Rank on the account shows "Initiate". If I click "Edit" the only choices that are available, for Security Level, are "Initiate" and "Non-Member".

I set the Security Level to "Initiate" and save.
I then go to the Character of the Wesite Account.
There I select Rank to be "Member" and Save.

If I go back to the Wesite Accounts, it still shows Rank as "Initiate". However, if I go to the Roster, the Rank shows "Member".

How do I get the Rank in the Wesite Accounts to show "Member"?

Also, would you please describe the differences in Rank and Security settings.

Thank you very much

It sounds to me like your Website account rank on your website is "Member" (meaning you don't have the ability to assign anyone to a rank above "Initiate").

If you look in the "Logged In" box of your site, you'll see a link labeled "Wrong?", click that, and then you can put in a request for a promotion on the site.

The words "Rank" and "Security Level" are used interchangeably, but the discrepancy you are facing right now is the difference between "Character" and "Account." The ranks for Characters and Accounts are different by design. Changing the rank of a Character, does not necessarily mean you want that account to change, and vice versa.

My Account is set to Member with full Admin privs.
So then I could not set any of the other Accounts to Member or higher do to the Rank, of my account, being Member.

But, as I do have admin privs, I can set Character ranks higher than my own character rank.

Correct?

So what happens if you have an Account at the top security level and an associated character at the bottom Rank level. Or even reverse of that (top Rank, bottom security)

Thanks again
Correct.

Character rank, for functional purposes, means nothing. If you have a characer that's "Guild Master" rank that won't change how you interact with the site at all. All it will do is stick "Guild Master" next to your character name on the Roster.

Account rank, on the other hand gives you actual functional permissions to perform various tasks. However, for security, being givin "Full Administrative Privileges" will still not allow you to modify accounts that are of the same rank or higher.

To summarize:

All that matters from a functional perspective is the rank of the account. The rank of the character is merely aesthetic.

Excellent. That indeed makes the use of the two setting very clear.

Thanks again
