Am I mistaken in the functionality here. I would assume that the new should be to the left of the Next 5 Events, Gallery Preview, and Recent posts section. Mine is displaying above and I was wondering if this was a bug or if I have something formatted wrong.

It looks like you had switched it to "Two Below" since this post, but yes, "Side-By-Side" is supposed to default to news on the left and 3 boxes of your choice on the right.

I see. What you're seeing above is actually the "Welcome" message. You don't currently have any news posts. Head to Admin > General Settings > News and you can post a news post and see what it would look like with an actual post.
