Looking for MT Loot Rules

Looking for MT Loot Rules

I am researching what other guilds use as a rule (if any) for MT Loot Priority.

Currently, we do not have an MT Priority system in place, but as we are progressing into higher tier loots and patterns are shared by multiple classes (EQ2) we are finding that some members just don't grasp the concept of the MT needing things like Critical Mitigation, etc prior to classes like Rangers or Wardens.
We are looking to develop a system that is fair to the MT with regards to the point value they either spend or receive as well as keeping it fair to the other members who don't get a tank priority.

I am interested to know how other guilds handle gearing up their MT or Off tank.

Thanks in advance!
Hi Shianne,
We've been tweaking a Tank Priority loot system within out DKP for a while now. What we are currently allowing is that items on the tanks precreated lists that are specifically for tanking are granted FREE (0 DKP) with a Tank Priority bid. Only our core raid team tanks are able to use TP. The tanks we have will not be abusing the system and the bulk of our raiders understand the importance of having geared up tanks, so this isn't a really big deal.

Hope this helps a little bit.

This is actually very similar to what my guild did when we were a raiding guild. Because most people simply cared about heavy damage for pvp, we would charge less for progression items like resistance gear and tank stuff, since no one wanted to spend a lot on them anyway.

Then again, EQ2 likely has a different dynamic than WoW, but you can always stipulate in the rules that the officers can override the DKP with regard to tank-specific items.

It's all in the reflexes.
This is our policy (also for WoW)

Quote
Tanking Gear
The main tank of the guild will be given first priority on all tanking loot, including set piece tokens. If it is determined by the guild master (or current raid leader if guild master is not online) that an item is an upgrade for the main tank, he will be awarded the item for a flat rate of 100 dkp. The item will not be bid upon by other guild members. Any item that could be used for something other than tanking (except for set pieces) will need to be discussed in advance with the guild leader for it to fall under this rule.

On set pieces only, the main tank may pass on the piece instead of taking it automatically for 100 points. If the main tank passes, he retains the option of bidding up to 100 points on that item regardless of what his/her current DKP is.

The off tank of the guild will be given second priority on all tanking loot. This does NOT include set piece tokens. If it is determined by the guild master (or current raid leader if guild master is not online) that an item is an upgrade for the off tank, he will be awarded the item for a flat rate of 25 dkp. The item will not be bid upon by other guild members. The off tank's primary spec for loot will be either healing or DPS depending on the role/class of that player and anything that is not tanking loot will fall under the normal bidding rules outlined in the DKP explanation.

If a tanking item drops that is not an upgrade for either the main tank or the off tank, it will be bid upon by the guild as normal.

We currently do not have an official off tank so we're not using that part of the policy. And our MT is now fully geared. It did work though, he got everything he needed very quickly and the members didn't complain (that I'm aware of..)

Thanks for the posts guys!

This is where we ended up:

Main Tank/Secondary Tank Priority: If a cross class (non fighter only) item drops that would be of significant value to our plate tanks the Main Tank has the right to claim Priority and pay 50DKP for the item uncontested. If the MT does not claim Priority then the Secondary Tank is given the same option of purchasing the item at 50DKP uncontested (if applicable). If neither tank claims priority, then the bidding would follow the general hierarchy
That's similar to where we started. Finding the right TP price can be a little tricky, so you'll want to keep a close eye on it to make sure it works properly for your system.

I can't say how it would work out in EQ2 but in WoW I've been running a successful raiding guild for 3 years now. We've done everything from a very complex attendance based DKP down to simply rolling 100, but just recently we had a loot philosophy change with the difficulty level of Ulduar.

The basic concept is trivial, we have a main and off tank who if it drops and they want it for their tanking role, get it. The mentality behind this is simple, without them taking the beating no one else gets loot. Now in order to maintain this role we demand 90% 90 day attendance, that only allows for 2 raids missed every 3 months on our schedule.
